No – you do not need any experience! We have many new people volunteer for each production! You can be on stage, back stage, in our light booth, helping with concessions and so much more! We can train you and you’ll be an expert before you know it!!!

We currently don’t have any classes available. We are in the process of developing classes right now. Please contact us to let us know your interest, and what kind of classes you would like.

Most of our auditions are “Open Auditions” which means that there is not a set appointment time. During our open audition times, you will come to HCT and be greeted by one of our volunteers who will give you an audition form. You will complete this with your personal information, including any previous experience you might have (but experience is NOT necessary!). You will also complete a conflict calendar. On this you will mark any days you are not available. The director will use this when setting an rehearsal schedule. They will also give you an audition number and take your picture. After all the paperwork is complete, the director will call people up either alone or (most likely) in small groups. They will be given portions of the script to read and act out. During auditions for musicals, you may be required to come prepared with a musical number. We do offer a free audition workshop for children & teen summer shows. This is usually the Saturday before the auditions.

The dates of our auditions are already listed on our website for our current season shows! After the auditions (normally on a Monday and Tuesday), the casting is normally completed by the end of the week of auditions. HCT has a wheelchair ramp located in the front of the building off 9th street. The bathrooms and the auditorium are both wheelchair accessible. Our ADA seats are only available by calling the box office at 616-396-2021. When reserving your tickets, please let the box office know that you will have a wheelchair. The seats are in row D as well as seats A1 and B1.

Our Mainstage show opening nights are special!!! We offer a complimentary wine and hors de ouvers event after the show where you can meet the cast and crew (Catered by Ultimate Catering). These are the 1st Friday of each show show. Not to be outdone, our Christmas show, as well as the children and teen summer shows offer an “Ice Cream Social” on their opening night.

The first Thursday of each Mainstage show are “Preview Nights”. All tickets are only $10 for this show. (Because the tickets are already reduced, there is no preview night for the Christmas, children or teen shows.)

These are our main feature shows. Mainly they are acted by adults and are full length plays and musicals. They are in the fall (October), winter (January/February) and spring (April/May). Season tickets are good for these 3 shows.
